TUCSON - One Tucson High school teacher is taking his passion for cars and helping to keep some of his students on the right track.

Wes Marsh is encouraging Pueblo High School students to join his automotive club and learn more than just how to build cars.

"I just like to look at it and say I was part of building that, that's pretty cool," said sophomore Lucas Montano.

Mr. Marsh's automotive club let's these kids imaginations soar on the race track.

"It's something that I love and I have a passion for and I figured if I have the passion for it maybe someone else will and sure enough I have a great group of kids that come here all the time coming to work on cars," said Marsh.

The teens do all the work in assembling the racecars and they are the first high school in the nation to compete in dirt track racing.

"You're seeing something out there that you built from scratch and it's running great and you say to yourself that's right I did that," said sophomore Angel Estrella.

Each student can drive the drag car as long as they have their parents permission, an Arizona state drivers license, and they must have a "C" average.

When it comes to the dirt track racecar no student is allowing behind the wheel because of insurance liabilities.

"You're building this car and every way possible and you can't actually be the one out there racing it and that brings you down to a whole other level," said Estrella.

Marsh has the club members come up with their own constitution they have to abide by.

"It's not my club. It's there club. I am just there to support them, they do the work they are the ones who are here. If the car's not ready to run, it's because they weren't here," said Marsh.

All the hours Marsh puts into the club are volunteer and the teens say he's made all the difference.

"I learned a lot. I learned everything that I know about cars I probably learned here. If he wasn't here after school and during the summer then we would probably be out getting into trouble," said Montano.

"He really believes in us and we can actually do something make a difference," said junior Marco Diaz.

"He's not only a great teacher, but he's a great friend. He's there to teach us about cars everything there is to know about them not only that he's also teaching us ways on how to actually live a better life," said Estrella.
