FLORENCE - Four, one-week old Rottweiler puppies were reunited Wednesday evening with their mother in Florence, AZ.
On Tuesday morning was the beginning of what could have been a tragic story. A Florence resident filed a report to the Police Department claiming their Rottweiler and her pups were stolen from the backyard.
During the search, a neighbor found the puppies in their dumpster in a box. They contacted the owner and turned them in.
The pups were brought to Pinal County Animal Care and Control Shelter on 11-Mile Corner Road.
On Wednesday morning, the Bark Side Rescue came over to care for the puppies while the search for the mother continued. Animal Care and Control Director Kaye Dickson acquired some photos of the mother Rottweiler from the owner and were posted on Facebook.
The staff at the animal shelter were contacted by the Florence Police Department telling them they had found the mother, Director Kaye Dickson said. She was taken to them and was identified as the puppies' mother.
They were worried that the mother would not be able to provide milk for her puppies given she was without food or water for a long time in 100 degree weather.
The biggest fear was the possibility of the mother not accepting the puppies, but everything turned out for the better, Dickson said.
The investigation to this crime continues with a person of interest being questioned.
Dickson said she hopes to forward the case to the County Attorney's Office early next week.
