SIERRA VISTA - Progress continues on the containment of the Monument Fire - night shift crews continued working on improving the fire line holding back the blaze, performing controlled burns in the areas west of the evacuated neighborhoods.
As of the latest update, a crew of about 1,170 has the 29,065-acre blaze 59 percent contained.
Today, crews will continue to construct and reinforce the line between the Garden and Monument Fires, while hot shot crews and air support continue to keep the fire from spreading into Ramsey Canyon. A direct line will be constructed from the campgrounds to Carr Peak, according to incident officials.
Crews held the southwest side of the fire in check on the ridge between Blind and Ida Canyons with retardant, hardline and burn out operations.
The next scheduled information meeting will be held tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Buena High School, 5225 Buena School Blvd. in Sierra Vista.
