GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) - Within a few weeks, pre-construction is expected to begin on the Arizona Temple in Gilbert for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Crews will soon begin laying underground power lines at the site on the southeast corner of Greenfield and Pecos roads.
Once the approval process from the Gilbert Design Review Board is complete, a groundbreaking ceremony will take place at the site. The 81,000-square foot temple will take approximately 24 months to complete.
Currently, the Mormon church has 134 temples already in operation or in the planning and construction phase.
Unlike chapels, where anybody can enter, temples are places where Mormons must be in good standing with the church leadership to get inside.
