PHOENIX - Directors of US Airways and American Airlines meet Wednesday to vote whether to merge.

The companies hope to secure a deal before Friday, when a bondholder confidentiality agreement expires, which could result in public disclosure about negotiation details.

US Airways, headquartered in Tempe, is assuring Arizonans that a merger would not negatively impact the state's economy. CEO Doug Parker said earlier in the week that it is possible the company headquarters could move to Texas after a merger, but the majority of jobs in Phoenix will stay. He says Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport would also remain a hub.

If the two carriers strike a deal, it would create the world's largest passenger airline carrier.
