TUCSON - Police have identified the man who robbed a bank in Tucson and later killed himself near San Simon.
On Feb. 28 police say Kirk Luethy, 53, robbed the Pyramid Federal Credit Union in the 4400 Block of North Oracle Road. He was disguised by a mask and had a gun in his hand, Tucson Police Sgt. Chris Widmer said in a release.
Luethy fled on foot, but was later found in Cochise County, Wider said.
Luethy was parked to the side of the road when a deputy checked on him. The suspect fled about 50 yards before stopping again, then fled and hit a tree, Cochise County spokeswoman Carol Capas said.
The wheels of Luethy's truck kept spinning after the crash, igniting a fire to the grass underneath, Capas said. The deputy observed Luethy shoot himself.
