RIO DE JANEIRO - Police in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo are baffled by a macabre puzzle: Someone has been leaving gift-wrapped human skulls around town.
The first skull was found February 20, wrapped in red wrapping paper and left in a planter near a residential downtown building. Since then, seven others have been found near Mormon temples or consulates. The skulls are all old, with traces of dirt.
Investigator Paul Henry Bozon Verduraz told the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper that security cameras have captured images of a woman in an ankle-length skirt leaving some of the skulls. Verduraz thinks it may be part of some sort of ritual.
