PHOENIX - Phoenix police say a homeowner shot and wounded a man trying to break into his bedroom in a home where officers later found numerous marijuana plants.
Sgt., Tommy Thompson say officers responding to a call from the homeowner Friday morning found a wounded man with his foot sticking through the bedroom door. He is expected to survive his injuries.
Thompson says officers found approximately 50 marijuana plants. He says that many plants exceed the limit allowed under the homeowner's medical marijuana cultivation permit.
He says prosecutors will decide whether to file charges regarding the marijuana but that it appears the 54-year-old homeowner acted in self-defense in shooting the intruder.
Identities haven't been released. Thompson says officers want to interview the wounded 32-year-old man to determine a motive for the break-in.
