TUCSON - Marana Police have confirmed the identity of the construction worker who collapsed while working in the sun yesterday and later died.
Yesterday, emergency crews arrived at the work site to find 44-year-old Mark Geise suffering cardiac arrest, with a bystander administering CPR. Emergency personnel took over and attempted to revive his heartbeat for 20 minutes without success.
Police say Geise was not a Costco employee, but a contractor doing work at the store.
Northwest Fire Public Information officer, Capt. Adam Goldberg, said Geise showed signs of heat exhaustion before his collapse. "According to his co-workers, he had been nauseous and vomiting. He tried to drink some water, but was not able to keep it down," Goldberg said.
Northwest Fire reminds everyone that extreme temperatures over the next few days can be deadly. If possible, limit your outside activity and take any heat related symptoms very seriously.
