TUCSON - The woman who was shot on the east side Tuesday night and later died in a nearby hospital, has been identified by Tucson Police officials.

On June 26, at about 6:30 p.m., Tucson Police responded to a report of shots fired in the 8500 block of E. 18th Street, according to a news release from the department. Officers found 27-year-old Genna Ayup suffering from obvious signs of trauma. Officers and Tucson Fire personnel rendered aid before she was transported to a nearby hospital where she later died.

Detectives from TPD responded to investigate. At this time, it has not been determined whether or not the incident was criminal in nature, the release states. More information will be released when it is available.
