MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Mesa police says an officer fatally shot a wanted man in a wheelchair as the man struggled with another officer to gain control of a concealed handgun.
According to police, the struggle and shooting occurred while three officers were questioning the 49-year-old man Sunday after the officers stopped him and confirmed that a felony drug warrant was active.
Police say the man was fidgeting with his waistband where officers found two concealed knives during a search.
According to police, the man then grabbed a concealed handgun from his side and a struggled ensued between the man and one of the officers, prompting another officer to shoot the man.
The man's identity wasn't immediately released.
None of the officers were hurt.
