TUCSON - The remains of a woman who mysteriously disappeared 12 years ago have been found, confirming that the case is a homicide and renewing the Pima County Sheriff's Department's investigative efforts.

On the evening of August 20, 2000, Linda Watson vanished from her home and has never been seen again, according to a news release from the PCSD. Her mother, Marilyn Cox, never gave up on the search for her missing daughter, until she and her friend Renee Farnsworth were gunned down as they were returning to Cox's home on May 7, 2003.

Clues in the case were discovered in 2000 and 2003, and in recent months, developments have moved these cases to the forefront of the Cold Case Homicide Unit's investigative efforts, the release states.

Back in 2000, when Watson went missing, detectives were looking at two suspects: an ex-husband and an ex-boyfriend investigators say she was having problems with.

"We've not eliminated anyone as far as suspects go go so to answer your quesiton if they were suspects then they are still are suspects," said PCSD Information Captain Chris Nanos.

Linda Watson's remains were recovered and positively identified through DNA testing, police officials confirmed to News 4 Tucson. Investigators are proceeding with further efforts to re-address this case, and are asking the public's help to develop additional leads.

To that end, investigators are asking that anyone who may have information regarding the homicide call 911 or 88-CRIME.
