Police arrest 18-year-old for stabbing homicide last night

TUCSON - Tucson police detectives with the Gang Unit have arrested an 18-year-old man and charged him for a murder committed in midtown last night.

An officer patrolling the area near the 3300 block of North Stone Avenue saw a an backing away from the sidewalk towards a driveway, and four other men running north from the area. The officer followed the fleeing suspects and saw them run into a home at the 3400 block of North Stone Avenue. The officer called for additional units.

During this time, an officer with Pima County Adult Probation was driving through the area, and saw the victim collapse on the sidewalk. He determined the victim, 23-year-old George Soto, had been stabbed, and called for assistance. Soto was transported to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries shortly after.

Officers detained several of the men in the house at the 3400 block of North Stone - at least one had documented gang affiliations, and the Gang Investigations Unit was called to the scene. Detectives then arrested 18-year-old Gabriel Soliz, of Tucson, in connection with the case.

Soliz has been charged with one count of 1st-Degree Murder, and was booked into Pima County Jail.
