TUCSON - Ironwood Ridge's Mitch Fischer and Anthony Braunreiter were great buddies in the backfield with Fischer running and Braunreiter blocking.
"We were real close and I loved blocking for him, that was basically my role last season," said Braunreiter.
But last year was a trying season for Braunreiter who had to patiently wait for his turn to get back on the field.
"Third week of the season I broke my thumb, had surgery and I was out for 6-7 weeks," said Braunreiter. "It was tough to be at practice and not participate," he added.
When Braunreiter took the field last Friday night against rival Canyon del Oro, he made the most of his return to the gridiron, running for 112 yards and three touchdowns to beat Canyon del Oro 36-0.
