HOUSTON - The office of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords confirms that pending medical approval, she will travel to Florida to attend the final launch of space shuttle Endeavour, the mission commanded by her husband, Capt. Mark Kelly.
A release from the office states that doctors are overseeing the congresswoman's recovery from a gunshot wound to the head at TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, and they will have the final word on whether Rep. Giffords will attend the launch on April 29.
Dates of the congresswoman's travel to Florida have not been confirmed, and she will not meet with the media or issue any statements while there. The staff will hold a press conference after the launch to discuss Rep. Giffords' reaction.
This is the final mission for space shuttle Endeavour, and the next-to-last mission before the space shuttle program is ended and the fleet is retired.
Rep. Giffords attended the launch of her husband's previous mission, aboard the space shuttle Discovery in 2008.
