TUCSON- Pima County is working on a $22.8 million road project that will connect Silverbell Road to I-10 and River Road.
Thirty years ago the Flood of 1983 washed away the Sunset Bridge, located at Sunset Road and Silverbell Road, which connected Silverbell Road to I-10.
Now the county plans to have a new bridge, except this time it will be further south on Silverbell Road, where the Santa Cruz River is at its narrowed point.
The new bridge will be also much higher.
This is the first phase of the project, running from Silverbell Road to I-10.
The second part of the project will run from I-10, over the Rillilto River, to River Road.
The whole project is expected to be completed in 10 years.
