In an effort to help Pima County residents combat identity theft, the Pima County Sheriff's Department will host a "Shred-A-Thon" this Saturday, March 24, 2012, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the parking lot of the Pantano Christian Church located at 1755 South Houghton Road. The public is encouraged to participate, FREE OF CHARGE, by bringing their old personal documents and papers to be shredded.
In addition this Saturday's Shred-A-Thon will be a drive-through shredding service in which an attendant will go to your car and transfer all your documents to a bin for shredding.
Sheriff's officials tell News4 Tucson the goal of these events is to promote identity theft awareness and education. By shredding old documents, you can reduce the possibility of thieves stealing and assuming your identity. According to the PCSD, identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America.
These events are held throughout the year at different locations in Pima County in partnership with Arizona Verified Destruction (AVID).
