TUCSON - The Pima County Sheriff's Department is investigating several burglaries on the northwest side of town since early August. There have been approximately 15 burglaries in neighborhoods north of Ruthrauff to Ina Road, and west of Oracle to I-10.
These burglaries have occurred at night when the residents are at home asleep. At this time no resident has made contact with the suspect(s) during the burglary. In most instances entry was made through a sliding glass door at the back of the residence or an unsecured dog door.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department would like to remind residents to lock their doors and windows, and to place dowels or other locking mechanisms in their windows and sliding doors. Residents with alarm systems should still contact 911 after their alarm is initiated, even if nothing appears to be disturbed. Residents should remember to stay vigilant and be aware of suspicious persons or vehicles in their neighborhood. If something seems suspicious, please contact 911.
If you would like the Sheriff's Auxiliary Volunteers to come to your residence and perform a home safety inspection, please contact the Crime Prevention Division of the Sheriff's Auxiliary Volunteers at (520) 351-4685. The Pima County Sheriff's Department encourages the implementation of Neighborhood Watch programs. If your neighborhood is interested in starting a neighborhood watch, please go to the Pima County Sheriff's website at www.pimasheriff.org and click on the Department Services tab.
