Pictures show destruction caused by Monument Fire

HEREFORD - News 4 Tucson viewer Nicholas Hegarty was granted temporary access to some of the areas evacuated due to the Monument Fire.

Hegarty says he took these photos around Stone Ridge Road in Hereford, Arizona, shortly after noon today.

"After driving through the neighborhood, the impression that I got is that the homes are either completely destroyed or untouched," Hegarty says. "The landscape is blackened throughout, but it looks like the firefighter were able to minimize the number of homes lost."

Officials say at least 50 structures have been destroyed or damaged by the Monument Fire, including 40 homes.

"I hope these pictures help give a sense of the destruction, and at the same time the heroism involved in this tragic event," Hegarty says.
