TUCSON - Starting at midnight Wednesday, two additional red light cameras will go live in Tucson. One is located at Speedway and Kolb, the other is Grant and Swan.
Citations will be given to red light runners and lead foots. As you can imagine drivers have mixed opinions about the cameras.
Vicki Williams says, "I think they're good."
Dana Francy disagrees, "I think they're horrible."
Jennifer Levis says, "You know what if they're working properly they're a good thing."
Mike Johnson says, "Doesn't make a difference to me I don't speed at all."
Williams hopes speeders will now think twice, "Look at the traffic out there, there's some people who don't care. They'll go through that red light, they'll speed up to get through that red light."
"I think it's a hazard more than anything," says Francy who believes the flashing cameras will have a negative impact. "Well for one they flash when people are coming through the lights, interferes with people's eyes and I think it will cause more accidents than it will help people."
Tucson Police disagree, their statistics show crashes are reduced at intersections with cameras.
Levis just hopes tickets are given fairly, with properly working equipment.
"I think it helps bring revenue to the city and we need it, so why not," she says.
There's one more camera soon to go live. It's at the intersection of Broadway and Craycroft. TPD says once road work is complete it too will activate sometime next month.
