PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a Phoenix couple received a surprise card in the mail that contained about $1,000 worth of methamphetamine.
Phoenix police tell KSAZ-TV they were called to the couple's home last week after the residents received a birthday card and opened it up to find the powder.
Officers used a field test kit to determine the substance was methamphetamine.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos says the envelope was mailed from Phoenix to Pennsylvania, but was returned to the sender. The return address was the home of the 81-year-old man and his 73-year-old wife, who had no idea where it came from.
Martos says the sender was likely hoping to get to the couple's mail before they did in order to retrieve the drugs.
