Phoenix chase ends with crash, 2 people in custody

PHOENIX (AP) - An hour-long police chase that crisscrossed much of Phoenix ended Wednesday morning after an SUV collided with another vehicle at an intersection and then crashed into a tree.

Two people in the SUV then fled on foot, but news helicopter video showed police taking both into custody nearby.

Sgt. Trent Crump earlier said a possible burglary suspect was in the SUV.

It wasn't immediately known whether anybody in the vehicle struck at the intersection or in vehicle that was clipped earlier was injured.

The chase ended occurred shortly after unmarked police vehicles tried to stop the SUV. For most of the chase, marked police vehicles stayed back while a police helicopter trailed the SUV.

The SUV ran numerous red lights. The chase ran through downtown Phoenix and multiple neighborhoods.
