PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a Phoenix-area man has been arrested for allegedly killing his neighbor's pit bull.
Maricopa County Sheriff's officials say 43-year-old Briant Winiecke confessed to shooting the animal.
They say he's been booked into jail on suspicion of cruelty to animals and recklessly discharging the shotgun in a residential neighborhood.
Authorities say the dog was shot twice in the head at close range while it was tied to a fence Tuesday night.
The day before the shooting, the pit bull allegedly wandered to a nearby house and killed a 14-year-old basset hound.
KPHO-TV reports that Winiecke had nothing to do with either dog and simply lived nearby.
Authorities didn't immediately know Thursday if Winiecke has a lawyer yet.
