Phillips named FC Tucson most valuable player

TUCSON - FC Tucson defender Josh Phillips has been named the eegee's team MVP according to a press release Thursday. It's the inaugural award for the club.

Phillips appeared in 10 games for FC Tucson and was a big reason the defense allowed only 11 goals on the year. That tied for fifth in the nation.

"I want to thank the staff for this award along with my teammates on an amazing summer that I will never forget," Phillips was quoted by the club. "I'm so grateful for the future and opportunities FC Tucson has provided me with. I'm truly going to miss everyone."

"I'm extremely excited about Josh winning the eegee's Team MVP," said FC Tucson head coach Rick Schantz. "Josh exemplifies patience, hard work and commitment to the team in order to eventually become one of the best defenders in the nation.

"Because of Josh's unbelievable work ethic, it's no surprise to me he's been offered to train with an MLS side."

FC Tucson recently completed its most successful season, advancing to the round of eight in the PDL Playoffs. The team also hosted its first-ever postseason event.
