PEORIA - The demotion of a Peoria police officer who posted on Facebook a photo of an apparent bullet-riddled T-shirt with a likeness of President Barack Obama has been upheld.
Monday night, a city board upheld the demotion of Patrick Shearer from patrol sergeant to officer.
In February, Shearer was demoted to officer and suspended two weeks without pay after he briefly posted a photo of a bullet-riddled image of Obama on Facebook days before the president's visit to Chandler.
Shearer said he regretted his action and agreed that discipline was warranted, but he had called a demotion to the rank of officer excessive.
The city's three-person personnel board Tuesday reduced his suspension to 40 hours.
