WASHINGTON - The Secretary of Veterans Affairs announced Monday that the Department of Veterans Affairs awarded the Pascua Yaqui Tribe a $322,554 grant to establish the Pascua Yaqui Tribe Veterans Cemetery near Tucson.
This grant will pay for the construction of approximately 350 casket gravesites, landscaping and supporting infrastructure on approximately two acres. The cemetery will provide burial options for approximately 188 Pascua Yaqui Tribe Veterans and their families.
The cemetery will be on the Pascua Yaqui reservation southwest of Tucson. Currently, the closest national cemetery is VA's National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, in Phoenix. The nearest state Veterans cemetery is the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista.
