OVPD arrests four men for using counterfeit money

ORO VALLEY- The Oro Valley Police Department arrested four men Friday on forgery and fraud charges after they bought merchandise from a Target with counterfeit money.

According to OVPD Lieutenant Kara Riley, three of the men bought nearly $600 worth of merchandise with counterfeit twenty dollar bills from the Target at 10000 North Oracle Road and then tried to return the merchandise for cash 45 minutes later at the Target in Marana.

The OVPD Community Action Team contacted the three men outside the Target in Marana and determined the men were travelling through town and were staying at a local hotel, Riley said.

The OVPD and United States Secret Service served a search warrant on their hotel room and found items used to make counterfeit money, Riley said.

All four suspects were booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center.

Billy Hamilton, Akeem Johnson, and Ronnie Ringo were charged with nine counts of forgery, fraud schemes and organized retail theft. Michael Hamilton was charged with 14 counts of forgery and fraud schemes.

OVPD is asking anyone with additional information on the case to call (520) 229-4900, 88-CRIME or 9-1-1.
