Over $624,000 worth of meth seized at Nogales port over weekend

NOGALES - Three Arizonans were arrested during separate incidents this past weekend at the Port of Nogales for attempting to smuggle more than 40 pounds of methamphetamine into the United States.

Friday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred Judy Adilene Aguirre, 22, of Chandler, for an additional inspection of her Ford SUV when she attempted to cross the border. After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs inside the rear cargo compartment, officers removed 14 packages of crystal meth worth $227,788.

Sunday, officers referred Joaquin Vicente Lopez, 61, of Nogales, for further inspection of his Honda sedan. A service canine alerted to the front bumper area where officers then removed 14 packages of meth worth $225,060.

Later Sunday, a 34-year-old Fort Mohave woman was selected for further search of her Chevrolet SUV. A canine alerted to the gas tank containing nine packages of meth worth $171,182.

The drugs and vehicles were processed for seizure. The three subjects were referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
