ORO VALLEY - An Ironwood Ridge High School teacher is out of jail tonight. Robert Brush is charged with one count of sexual misconduct with a minor. The alleged victim, a female student.
In video court today, the judge ordered him to not return to the high school.
Iit was a School Resource officer who tipped off Oro Valley Police about the 31 year old teacher allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with of his students back in March. Oro Valley Police spokeswoman Lt. Kara Riley says, "We weren't able to gather enough evidence to make an arrest "
That all changed on Monday when new information surfaced. The Media Arts and Marketing teacher was arrested on Thursday.
Students we spoke with weren't surprised. Heather Odell says, " It was kind of predicted, there were certain things happening in January I heard about, so as news finally got around it wasn't much of a surprise to find out it was true. "
Brush was in his first year at Ironwood Ridge. What is surprising and shocking to students is that Brush is the second teacher in the past year to be arrested for having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Last May, Melissa Ann Dalton admitted to having intercourse and oral sex on multiple occasions with two male students. Kevin Sherwood says, "You just have to wonder what's going on with the administration. It's just real disappointing."
Ironwood Ridge High School sent a letter home with students outlining what's happened up until now. They're also asking if anyone has more information to contact 88-CRIME or Oro Valley Police.
Amphi School District also issued a statement. Part of it says,
"As it does with all new employees, the District conducted a thorough background check on Mr.
Brush before his hire in August 2012. The District received positive references from his prior
employers, and he qualified for a valid fingerprint clearance card from the Arizona Department
of Public Safety. Certainly nothing in Mr. Brush's background suggested that he was unfit to
work as a teacher."
Robert Brush is on administrative leave. His attorney Rafael Gallego is shocked at the turn of events and says his client denies any wrongdoing.
His next court appearance is June 6th.
