Tucson- Children in need, including many who are homeless, is a problem that affects every corner of Pima County, including Oro Valley.
On Saturday the Oro Valley Rotary Club held the "Aqua Youth Showcase" to help improve the lives of those children.
Tucson Synchro, a Tucson based synchronized swimming club, performed at the Oro Valley Aquatic Center, helping the Rotary Club raise money to provide kids with summer swim scholarships.
While Oro Valley is considered an affluent community, event organizer and Oro Valley Rotary Club President, Saad Allawi, says there are people in the area who are homeless, including several high school students. He says, "There are actually 40 in the three high schools in Oro valley and obviously more underprivileged, not just homeless, and we are trying to help all of them."
The Oro Valley Rotary Club is hoping to give swim scholarships to at least twenty children. The scholarships will provide for two days of swim lessons and other activities at the Oro Valley Aquatic Center.
