TUCSON - Several organizations are boycotting the economic boycott of Arizona as a result of SB1070. They are encouraging people to travel to Arizona and buy products from Arizona companies. It is called Buy Arizona Now.
"This recipe is jalapeño cheddar." Vince Davis fell in love with the cheese popcorn, so he bought Copper Kettle Popcorn two years ago.
He says it is not right that Arizona small business owners, like himself, should be targeted by the SB1070 boycott.
"They're pointing at the wrong people. They need to be pointing their boycott at the federal government not at the state of Arizona," Davis says. "We're just trying to uphold the laws that are already there."
Those who support the boycott say the new law makes Arizona look like a racist state.
"They see it as a state that has implemented some Draconian Laws that are very specific and targeted towards Mexicans," says attorney Richard Martinez.
Davis is afraid of losing business. He found out the Tony Katz radio program in California is running one free ad a day for Arizona Companies. This is one of several ways the people behind Buy Arizona Now hope will offset the economic loss.
Katz told News 4, "Wrong is wrong. And to attack business owners, and violently attack business owners, for a law passed by lawmakers is obscene."
"I don't have much money for advertising so anything free that I can get, I'm gonna take," say Davis.
News 4 played the audio from the Tony Katz radio show for Davis. He says the free plug is fantastic.
However boycott supporters say it will not work.
"I think that effort will be small in comparison to those who will not do business in Arizona," says Martinez.
But Davis tells us he has two orders from new California customers already.
