TUCSON - Work on revamping the intersection of Orange Grove and La Canada starts this weekend, so expect closures.
The Pima County Department of Transportation, Regional Transportation Authority and their contractor, Select Development & Construction, Inc., will be reconstructing the entire La Cañada/Orange Grove intersection in order to raise it approximately three feet to the final grade and elevation. The work will also include installation of new drainage features, plus the installation of new curbs and new traffic signals. The intersection will be closed for three consecutive weekends while crews perform this work.
Intersection Closure Schedule:
1. Friday, July 19, beginning at 7:30 p.m. through Sunday, July 21, to 6:00 a.m.
2. Friday, July 26, beginning at 7:30 p.m. through Monday, July 29, to 5:30 a.m.
3.Friday, August 2, beginning at 7:30 p.m. through Sunday, August 4, to 6:00 a.m.
Motorists are asked to seek alternative routes and use River Road, La Cholla, Ina Road and Oracle Road during these weekend closures. All residents along La Cañada Drive north and south of Orange Grove Road will have access to their residential streets. Flagging personnel and sheriff's deputies will be stationed at the approaches to help redirect traffic as necessary.
All businesses will remain accessible and all emergency vehicles will have access during weekend closures.
Please approach the area with caution and obey all traffic control devices.
In the event of mechanical failure or inclement weather, the construction schedule will be subject to change.
