TUCSON - About 50 patriotic volunteers spent Saturday morning filling up care packages for the American troops fighting in Afghanistan
It's called Operation Caregiver. The group stayed busy boxing up a little piece of home for the brave men and women overseas.
Bob Hertzog served in the Army for six and a half years. He says we take socks, soap and other everyday necessities for granted. In a war zone, these things are hard to find.
"It makes their life easier, just a little easier," says Bob.
Agnes Hertzog is the co-chair of Operation Caregiver. This is her 4th shipment. The 1st shipment was just 47 boxes. Last year, 425 boxes and this year, they set the bar a lot higher.
"It's a thousand boxes and I think we're going to meet that goal," says Agnes.
When asked why they do it, they say, why not? What they give to the troops can't compare with what the troops give to us.
