TUCSON (AP) - UPDATE - An attempted traffic stop overnight on the westside of Tucson turned into a shooting incident and deadly car chase involving a deputy sheriff.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department said Friday that a deputy attempted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle on Roger Road at Campbell Avenue about 2 a.m.
When the deputy caught up to the vehicle to run the license plate, the Sheriff's Department said the suspects began shooting through the back window of their vehicle, striking the deputy's vehicle.
The pursuit continued west on Prince Road and south on Fairview Avenue when the suspect vehicle lost control on Fairview and struck a utility pole.
One person fled on foot and was later captured by a police dog. The other suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy was not injured.
