TUCSON - Tucson Police arrest a man they say is connected to an elaborate mushroom growing operation.
The Tucson Counter Narcotics Alliance responded to an apartment Monday in the 2500 block of East La Madera Drive after receiving a report of suspicious activity.
Investigators obtained a warrant to search the apartment and found an elaborate psilocybin mushroom indoor grow operation.
The search of the residence revealed that the majority of the small one bedroom apartment had been converted into a grow house.
In addition to chemicals and equipment used for the purposes of growing and cultivating psilocybin mushrooms, investigators found over 290 mason jars that could potentially yield tens of pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, a substance categorized as a dangerous drug. The suspected apartment was very close to Craigin Elementary School.
41-year-old Joshua Bortnick was arrested on one count of Manufacturing a Dangerous Drug, a Class 2 Felony.
