TUCSON, Ariz. The 23rd Annual Ted Walker Youth Day, cosponsored by Old Tucson and Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation, will be providing 4000 fourth, fifth and sixth graders a uniquely enlightening and entertaining field-trip.

On January 31, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., children from Tucson and Pima County school districts will arrive at Old Tucson to participate in the Annual Ted Walker Youth Day, which was named after the Pima County Parks and Recreation Commissioner for his charitable and civic contributions to the community. Mr. Walker started the Youth Day in 1988, according to a news release.

During the event, which is aimed towards enhancing the childhood experience and the knowledge of the Western heritage for Southern Arizona kids, Old Tucson will present western entertainment and educational Living History programs. Topics covered in the programs will include Schools on the Frontier, History of the Stagecoach and Sheriffs of the Old West, according to a news release.

Also during Youth Day, the children will be taught about horse anatomy and grooming from the Horse Tales Literacy Project, a non-profit organization that works to encourage reading in youth.
