MESA - Two Mesa police officers helped a pilot make a safe emergency landing when part of his plane's landing gear malfunctioned.
According to KTVK (http://bit.ly/15jgbLS ), pilot Gonzalo Ardavin radioed for help when he realized that one of the wheels of his plane's landing gear wasn't properly locked in position.
The officers were flying in a nearby helicopter and familiar with the pilot's type of aircraft visually confirmed that the wheel wasn't in position.
They then coached Ardavin on steps to take to prepare for the landing.
The pilot then landed at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport on just two of the plane's three wheels, walking away without a scratch.
