TUCSON-Police are investigating an officer involved shooting on the Southwest side.
It started just before 6:30 a.m. when a woman called 9-1-1 to report someone had rang her door bell and wasn't responding when she asked who it was.
When police arrived, they found two people walking in the area: a 17 year old and 20 year old.
But they split off in different directions.
Police approached them separately.
They tell News 4 Tucson, the 17 year old ran off into a neighbors yard, fumbled with his waistband was tased by officer Jesus Arriola, then the teen reached for his gun and pointed it towards the officer.
That's when the officer fired.
Police are still trying to determine who rang the woman's door bell.
They did detain the 20 year old for questioning but the 17 year old got away and showed up at a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
"I thought it was firecrackers," said neighbor Mary Ellen Quintero.
The sound of gunfire was heard across the neighborhood.
"I was sitting down in my recliner inside the house and I heard them," said Mike De La Rosa, who lives in the area.
Quintero said it's scary to think that the teen pulled out a gun in the neighborhood where kids frequently play freely outside.
"The kids they play in the street volleyball or basketball," she said.
Police are still trying to piece together what the 17 year old was doing with a gun.
Charges are pending for him.
As for the officer who shot the teen, Arriola has been with the department for five years.
He was placed on administrative leave which is standard procedure for officer involved shootings.
