Officer-involved shooting leaves 15-year-old dead in Tombstone

TOMBSTONE-- A 15-year-old Tombstone boy is dead after being shot by a Tombstone Marshal.

According to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office, a Tombstone resident reported someone trying to break into their home in the 1200 block of Camino San Rafael just before 4 Saturday morning.

When Tombstone Marshal Deputies entered the home, they encounted an armed suspect. A deputy shot and killed the suspect.

The Cochise County Sheriffs and Sierra Vista Police are conducting the investigation.

Chief Deputy and "Interim Sheriff" Rod Rothrock said, "it is a tragedy that we are experiencing so many deaths and/or injuries involving law enforcement in Cochise County within such a short amount of time. These instances only confirm that law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to protect the citizens that we serve. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the families affected by this latest incident, and the Sheriff's Office will work quickly and thoroughly to bring closure to this investigation."
