TUCSON - Occupy Tucson is back in business.
Protestors moved from their old spot at Veinte De Agosto Park to De Anza Park at Speedway Boulevard and Stone Avenue.
Occupy Tucson has caught a lot of people's attention in both positive and negative ways. On the upside it has pushed some major issues into the spotlight, but on the downside there have been about 850 arrests since October 2011.
Tucson Supervising Prosecutor, Alan Merritt said, "It increased the work load no question about that. This is quite a bulge if you will, of defendants to come through the system all at the same time."
According to protestor Sherry Mann the movement might have appeared to be dead, but now it's come roaring back. She said, "We didn't lose our energy. I think we are back stronger than ever."
Mann said with that added strength they won't just be doing the occasional march. She said they are back to doing what they do best. Mann said, "It's time to get back in our tents again it's time to move around and let a new part of the city know what we are up to."
Victoria Dwyer is another one of the protestors. She said, "This is where we get out and talk to the people. This is where we prove ourselves and explain what occupy is and how this movement is going to help in the future."
The occupiers said this new location is better than ever to get that message out; a message they said hasn't changed.
Even though it's a new park the same rules still apply. If the protestors are in the park after 10:30 p.m. they will be arrested. However, most of the tents are set up just outside a brick wall by the park border. Occupiers said because of that they should be cleared of any issues, but we'll have to wait and see if that sticks over time.
