Nogales Team Wins AZ State Title & Headed to Little League World Series

Nogales Little League certainly has bragging rights over the rest of Arizona. The small Arizona town sharing a border with Sonora, Mexico has -two teams- that have made a mark nationally in baseball: the Intermediate 50-70 squad of 13-year-old all-stars, and the Seniors (14 & 15-year-olds).

The Nogales Little League Seniors beat Casa Grande twice to take home the Arizona state title and punch their ticket to the Western Regionals. Meanwhile, the intermediate squad from Nogales Little League is one victory away from earning a regional title and advancing to the Little League World Series in Livermore, California.

Nogales hosts a team from Northern California tonight (July 24th) at 7:30 p.m. The winner will be crowned western regional champs. Nogales has emerged as the home town team that "could". For the first time ever, Santa Cruz County hosted the regionals. It's very uncommon for all star regionals to be played in Arizona. Normally California & Nevada hosts Little League regionals. Not only did the Little League committee decide to conduct this year's tournament in Arizona ..--they chose the small border town of Nogales, AZ. As KVOA News 4 has already reported, it's a tremendous boost to the Southern Arizona (and Nogales) economy.

News 4's Richie Melbie will at Thursday night's championship game to bring you live coverage & interviews from Nogales at 10 p.m., while Paul Cicala will bring you the highlights from KVOA's Tucson Studios.

Tune in to KVOA News 4 Tucson for more in-depth coverage at 6 and 10 p.m.
