NOGALES, AZ - The Nogales City Council expressed a difference of opinion on a proposed border-crossing fee at a special council meeting last Wednesday.
Without Councilor Esther Melendez-Lopez, who was absent from the meeting, the council unanimously approved a resolution opposing the fee.
The council's resolution presented the $26 billion in economic activity between Arizona and Mexico including the 60 percent of city sales tax revenue from Mexican shoppers. A 1985 council resolution was also cited, reminding the public of the negative impact of obstacles for visitors.
