Nogales Intermediate wins U.S. portion of Little League World Series

LIVERMORE, CALIFORNIA - The Nogales All-Stars are one step closer to a world championship. Nogales held off Maryland 6-5 in Saturday's Intermediate 50/70 Little League U.S. Championship game. The win puts the southern Arizona team into the Little League World Series title game against Puerto Rico.

The East (Maryland) took a 4-0 lead in the second after scoring on a single, fielder's choice, single and stolen base. The West (Nogales) stormed back in the fourth inning. Aaron Solis, the star pitcher for Nogales, stole home for the first run of the game. After Jorge Bojorquez gave Nogales its second score, Luis Andrade had a two-RBI double to even the game at four.

Nogales would take a 6-4 lead in the top of the fifth and never look back. Bojorquez and Dustin Bermudez combined for 11 strikeouts on the mound for Nogales. Bermudez did not give up a hit in his 2 2/3 innings.

Nogales will now compete for the 2014 Intermediate 50/70 World Series Championship. They face Puerto Rico on Monday at 4pm. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
