TUCSON - Fire managers are responding to a new fire in Saguaro National Park's Rincon Mountain District.
Saguaro National Park's Public Information Officer, Andy Fisher says the Jackelope Fire is located on Tanque Verde Ridge near Juniper Basin. It's burning in grass and juniper about 6,000 feet up.
Right now it's estimated to be at about 10 acres.
The Tanque Verde Trail from the trailhead at Javelina Picnic Area to Cow Head Saddle is closed. The Juniper Basin Campground is closed as well.
No structures are threatened at this time, but forest officials say the fire will be suppressed to protect nearby Sonoran desert vegetation. The park plans to fly in firefighters later Thursday.
