TUCSON - The city of Tucson is getting ready for Arizona's new concealed weapons law by removing some signs, from city parks. But it's a move some parents find very concerning.
The signs being taken down say, "Carry a firearm in this park is limited to persons who possess a permit." But the city said the new law just makes them obsolete because people will no longer be required to have a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
Tucson Assistant City Attorney Blake Ashley said, "The existing signs say there's this limitation and you have to abide by it and now that limitation has been taken away so there's really no replacement sign."
But losing the signs has some parents concerned.
Carlos Sanduoval said, "I would assume that people will bring more guns to the park when the signs are off. It's terrible. It's bad."
And many believe with more guns, comes more problems. Sanduoval said, "If the signs are being taking off, I'm scared that kids like these could get shot or something like that would happen."
Parents aren't the only ones concerned about the signs. We talked to a number of kids and they said if they see guns around they'll be nervous too.
Daniel Rodriguez said, "People would get really scared that they might get shot."
It has some already thinking twice about coming back.
Sanduoval said, "I think parents will be more hesitant to bring kids to areas where they take those gun signs off. I'm scared to take my nieces and nephews."
On the flip side, not everyone thinks this will be a problem in city parks. Some gun activists said it will actually be safer because it allows innocent people to defend themselves.
