New details in teacher's sexual abuse arrest

TUCSON - A Tucson teacher is under arrest, accused of sex acts with a 13-year-old boy.

47-year-old Christine Mazzarella is facing four counts of sexual contact with a minor. So far police are releasing few details surrounding this case. We do know the alleged abuse took place last July, and her arrest came Wednesday.

Mazzarella waived her right to appear before a judge Wednesday night. A public defender was there on her behalf.

Police say Mazzarella is special education teacher at Lineweaver Elementary School near 22nd Street and Alvernon. Detectives say there's no indication any misconduct took place with students.

Police say she had sexual contact with a boy, on multiple occasions in July of last year. Authorities learned of the relationship this month.

Mazzarella was arrested at her home. News 4 Tucson attempted to speak with family members, but they wouldn't come to the door.

Mazzarella's bond has been set at $10,000. She's due back in court, February 24th.
