TUCSON - A woman charged with assisting in illegal liposuctions and breast augmentations was arrested for the second time -- just two weeks after her partner was arrested.
Ilda Garcia, 40, faces a new charge of practicing medicine without a license. She was taken into custody and remains in the Pima County Jail without bond. Her boyfriend Gustavo Nunez was also arrested after a victim was hospitalized and reported to authorities.
News 4 Tucson obtained the search warrant connected to the most recent arrest of Nunez and Garcia.
Records show Pima County Deputies got involved after a woman showed up at a local hospital in a coma. She is currently in stable condition.
"Mr. Nunez dropped off the victim at the hospital and the hospital staff thought it was something we should know about and they contacted us and we responded and that's what started the investigation," said PCSD Deputy Tracy Suitt.
This isn't the first time Garcia and Nunez have been accused of practicing medicine without a license.
A 2013 investigation by the Drug Enforcement Agency found that Nunez and Garcia performed liposuction and breast enlargement surgeries out of a business near Oracle and Drachman.
The pair pleaded not guilty and currently await trial on the initial charges.
However, this new investigation is sparking new questions.
"As this investigation continues into Mr. Nunez, several people have come forward with information and we're looking into that and following up on any leads that may be out there for us," Deputy Suitt said.
Authorities ask that if you have any information about the illegal surgeries or about the accused to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME.
