TUCSON- Tucson police investigating a shooting that took the life of 42-year-old Chandler Booker on the city's south side.
It happened Sunday after 9 pm in the 1900 block of South Saint David Drive.
Neighbors called 911 when they heard multiple gun shots.
When officers arrived they found Booker in the driveway.
He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Detectives are investigating it as a "gang related" murder.
One neighbor said she heard, "pop, pop, pop, pop, just like one right after the other. It's crazy I thought it was firecrackers myself."
What neighbors heard was the deadly sound of a high powered rifle. "It's pretty scary, because we usually don't have very many things going on down here."
For fear of retaliation, the residents we spoke too wanted to remain anonymous. "Yeah it's kind of nerve racking too" said one man who lives houses away from where the shooting took place.
Some neighbors tell News 4 Tucson they always saw a lot of people coming and going at the house where Booker was killed. On Sunday, they were having a barbecue that ended in murder.
One neighbor commented, "so sad that it had to come to this."
Booker was in and out of prison from 1992 until 2001. He served time for aggravated assault and weapons violations. However, he's maintained a clean record for the last decade.
Some neighbors tell me they will remain vigilant because they want to help police find the person or persons responsible for this horrific crime. If you have information call 911 or 88-CRIME (882-7463)
