WASHINGTON - Scientists didn't think there could be any complex creatures living under these conditions -- hundreds of feet below the huge Antarctic ice sheet, where no light shines.

They were wrong.

A NASA team lowered a video camera to get the first long look at the underbelly of an ice sheet in Antarctica. And a curious shrimp-like creature came swimming by, and parked itself on the camera's cable.

Scientists also pulled up a tentacle that they think came from a foot-long jellyfish.

A NASA scientist is presenting the initial findings and a video at a conference this week -- and the video is likely to make experts rethink what they know about life in harsh environments.

Some are wondering -- if a shrimp-like creature can frolic below 600 feet of Antarctic ice, what about other hostile places -- like a frozen moon of Jupiter?
