TUCSON - Parents are piling-on a local sports league, crying foul over cancellations, missing uniforms, and promised refunds.
They claim that USA Youth Sports took their money, and short-changed their kids.
Stacee Weisenberger is one of those upset parents.
She tells the News 4 Tucson Investigators, she had signed-up her son for a basketball league run by USA Youth Sports in Tucson. But, when her son injured his knee, she cancelled her membership.
Weisenberger said the league operator promised her a quick refund of her $80 fee.
"He told me that it would be no issue to e-mail him directly and put refund request in the subject header of the e-mail."
But, Weisenberger said several weeks later, she still had not received her refund.
She posted her frustrations with the league on Facebook, and says other parents joined in on that discussion with similar complaints.
Irving Rodriguez said he's another of those other frustrated parents.
He told the News 4 Tucson Investigators, "the kids didn't have the proper uniforms, they weren't the correct sizes, there weren't enough socks for the kids, the coaches weren't showing up to games."
The News 4 Tucson Investigators took the parents' concerns directly to league operator Ed Payan.
He said running his 5,000 member league by himself, with some volunteer help, is a work in progress.
"We're in survival mode. We're trying to get it going and we're trying to do good things, " said Payan.
Payan said parents have to be patient with him, since the kids are his first priority.
"Once that's done, then we address other problems out there: 'hey, I can't find a field, I need refunds, my uniform's too small."
Payan said he's now recruiting more volunteer help from parents in the league.
Days after we interviewed Stacee Weisenberger, she received her refund from USA Youth Sports.
